What does it mean to “Level Up” with God?
We have all become accustomed to gaming lingo, which is where the term “level Up” comes from in the first place. When you level up in a video game, you have gained access to a more difficult part of the game. With access, comes more obstacles, higher difficulty, and a larger world to roam.
Now, think about your walk with God. Anything sound familiar? “more obstacles, higher difficulty, and a larger world to roam?” Feels like life, right?
To "Level Up" in a video game means achievement, scoring, and reaching goals. But that doesn't come without work, struggle, and sometimes, even failure. Learning how to navigate through new levels creates a stronger player with deeper understanding and appreciation of the game’s design, aesthetic, and storyline.
Why can’t your walk with the Lord be the same way?
First Steps
Fundamentally, it’s good to want to reach for the stars. You should always want the best for yourself in life. When you believe in Jesus and walk with God, the idea is to have Him lead you down the right path and reach for the stars that shine the brightest along the way. There’s only one flaw with that thought—most people want that supernova, the star glistening way off on the horizon.
Of course, that’s the one that grabs your attention but what about the dimly shimmering star in front of you?
By ignoring the small steps in front of you, the basic steps to put you in the right direction, you will never get to the plateau to help you get the closest to that horizon. we often want what we can’t have. the bible calls that “coveting.” it’s such a thing with people that God even wanted that in the ten commandments.
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house . . . your neighbor’s wife . . . nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
With God, everything should be personal. Your walk with God is unlike anyone else who calls themselves a child of God—it’s unique, special, yours. This is why coveting is not a good idea. We live through others lives, like someone who goes on all those vacations on facebook. You don’t know their struggle; you only see the success. That’s why your first steps with God are the most important. Those are the initial positions you choose with the lord.
Where will He take you?
What are you called to do?
When does He need you ready?
How do you plan to get there?
Why is that God’s plan for your life?
Make your life the one that is desired. Focus on where God needs you. From there, being able to “level up” becomes as easy as putting one foot in front of the other.
Step Back
To Level Up with success and consistency in your walk with Jesus, you must know one salient truth — You Go Up another level, but it’s God who put you there.
You may walk alone most of the time, but there is a friend who is closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). God never leaves you nor forsakes you (Hebrews 13:5). Your walk with God is your walk, no one else’s. You go different places, get there different ways, and see different things along the way. It’s up to appreciate the details. Enjoy the scenery. Love the journey. And appreciate the destination.
Any time you spend with the Holy Spirit is given to you by a God that loves you. Was it hard at times to get to where you’re at now? Yes, but each one of those scars tell a story of how the Lord brought you through and provided for your needs according to his riches and glory (Phillippians 4:19).
“The more you walk with God, the harder it is to skin your knee.”
The next time you feel you have fallen from grace, think about that quote. People who skin their knees lose balance, trip over their shoelaces, or didn’t see the step in front of them. They don’t stay in the ground. They always get back up, brush themselves off, and keep moving.
Why? They have somewhere to go. So do you!
Walking with God is a process, much like discovering a level up. It comes with time, persistence, insight, and patience—all veiled gems you pick up along the way as you master this game called life.
