Josiah Miles is why I learned how to level up. He did more in 11 years to inspire me for God. Indeed, his light will create a path for our kids his age to follow. This is his story. I sing his song. To Josiah, this is your lighthouse! To the kids of any community, we share this light with you to lead the way and brighten your future!

Who will care for our community's wandering children if we don’t band together to become the “village” they desperately need and show them the direction they should take?

Our mission is to be the lighthouse in the community some children will ever see.

The Josiah Miles Lighthouse works with the City of Houston to offer youth programs and services designed to empower their childhood and enlighten their future.

  • Our After-School Program provides a safe and fun environment for your child's educational growth. With a variety of educational games and activities, our unique program also offers homework help to keep your child connected with their studies in a delightful manner. Register your child now for a fulfilling after-school journey.

  • Attending school can be challenging enough without the concern of lacking a hot meal to sustain the day. At the Josiah Miles Lighthouse, we're dedicated to giving back and paving the way forward for our community. Providing free community meals is one of the many ways we contribute to making a positive impact.

  • We're on a mission to arm these students with the gear they need for scholarly success! At our Back-to-School bonanza, we'll be handing out the must-have school swag to the young scholars in our community. Let's make sure they kick off the school year on a high note. Hop on board and help us fuel these young minds to soar to new academic heights!

  • Our initiative focuses on promoting healthy lifestyle habits and urges parents to be proactive in their children's health. We aim to make healthcare accessible and affordable for all children in our community. Through our Free Physicals for Youth program, we offer preventative care to foster healthy growth. Our skilled medical staff provides various services to bolster your child's health and advocates for families to embrace healthy living.

The Legacy Behind the Lighthouse

Who was Josiah Miles?

A Son and a student. A child and a champion. This was Josiah.

His name was Josiah Marcel MAximus Miles. On a late summer day in 2019, he collapsed following football practice at Strack Intermediate School in Klein. It was a medical anomaly—something unexplainable.

His father said, “He had a very pure heart, very pure,” Joshua Miles said. “Give the shirt off his back for you. If he saw a homeless (person) on the street, he’d say, ‘Hey Dad, give him $20.’ It wasn’t small bills.”

His name also was his legacy:

  • “Josiah” means “God supports and heals” in Hebrew.

  • “Marcel” means “Little Warrior” (‘Marcellus’ in Latin). He was also named after his esteemed grandfather, a pastor in northwest Houston at Greater Faith Church.

  • “Maximus” means “Greatest” in Latin.

  • The surname “Miles” is Germanic in origin, meaning “Gracious soldier.”

And in 11 short years, he managed to live out his legacy. His name gave him principle. Today, We give it purpose.

The Josiah Miles Lighthouse was established in Houston to help students gain the gifts to prepare them for life, much like this gentle prophet gave to others his entire life.

  • He supported others and brought healing with his words and actions

  • He was a little warrior every day while on this planet.

  • He was a gracious soldier for his family and the kingdom of God.

  • And anyone who met Josiah would have gladly said that “he was the greatest.”

In Josiah's name, the Lighthouse came to life, dedicated to providing enriching school programs for the community's children. In Jesus' name, we invite all to discover this child's remarkable story, whose legacy is a guiding light, leading those adrift in darkness toward safety.
